washable rugs!!

Why I didn’t think or know of this before, when the kids were younger and accidents more frequent, I don’t know. But I am glad that I discovered some excellent washable rugs. We have tried two that we like for different reasons and put in different places in our home after trial and discovery .

Loren Canals and Hook and Loom

Lorena Canals

PROS

  • super soft!

  • modern and minimal designs

  • comes in washable 100% cotton or washable 100% wool

CONS

  • kind of blanket like

  • moves around

  • some styles don’t lie flat

We totally love the alphabet circular rug we bought. It lies pretty flat, and is beautiful and fun for kids. The braided rugs we bought, we ended up returning one. The braids make it buckle a little. I wouldn’t buy one like that again, but I would buy one with no decoration on the edge again. The rugs are extremely soft and I love the natural colors. Probably not a good rug for a high traffic area.

Hook & Loom

PROS

  • lies flat

  • clean and minimal look, with nice pattern options

  • washable 100% cotton

CONS

  • not that soft and cozy

  • moves around a little if doing something active

  • some slight ripples when it lies flat

We have the Solid Flatweave Eco Cotton Rug in grey. We really like it. It replaced a dark grey wool rug we had in the same spot that was not washable and was not fully salvageable after a big spill. We haven’t put a rug pad underneath, and that would probably help it be cushier.

I have also read about Ruggable, but never tried it. Seems like a nice concept though, and I might someday. Ruggable.com
