savvy baby organic crib mattress by savvy rest

Savvy Rest's crib mattress, called the Savvy Baby, is amazing - everything that I would want for our baby in a mattress. It is a standard crib size mattress comprised of 5 inches of firm organic Dunlop latex foam, and then is covered in quilted fabric made from organic wool batting surrounded by a soft luxurious organic cotton. I love that this mattress is made of certified organic latex. The rubber tree plantation where their latex comes from is certified organic according to USDA standards and the Dunlop processing is GOLS certified organic. It is made of latex and not polyurethane foam so there is no toxic off gassing. They have a nice page on the difference between foams here. Because you can literally unzip the top and see the natural latex, which is awesome, there are some slight variations in color and consistency that can be seen. It doesn't affect it at all, just something to note because a lot of people are used to such uniformity and visual perfection.

There are so many good things to say about this mattress. It is firm, durable, comfortable, has excellent support, breathability, and shape retention. There are no flame retardants such as polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE's) which have been linked to cancer, reproductive problems and lower IQ's in children soy or plant based oils, petroleum derivatives, or formaldehyde used. The mattress meets federal fire regulations because of the organic wool batting used in the casing. 

As I mentioned earlier, the top is attached with a zipper and can be zipped off for spot cleaning. This is a great and unique feature. The mattress is not waterproof, we use a wool moisture pad that is moisture resistant. Savvy Rest also sells a wool moisture pad. The organic cotton casing is very soft and luxurious, which is a wonderful finish to an excellent mattress!
